Eastern Cape born DJ Mobi Dixon’s hit single, Lake by the Ocean, has been removed from nominations by the South African Music Awards (SAMAs) due to technical issues surrounding the song.
This was announced by the SAMA’S public relations agency HM Entertainment in a press statement on Monday.
“Mobi Dixon’s Lake by the Ocean is a remix of an international song which is in contravention of the SAMA’S rules,” said Comfort Nkosi of HM Entertainment. Nkosi also stated that they would investigate to see how this was never recognised during the initial process.
“Risa and the Samas committee are doing investigations into how these breaches were not picked up during the vetting process. After the investigation has been completed, appropriate remedial action will be taken,” he said.
Mobi Dixon said that although he respected the decision made by the awards committee, he was not affected too much from his disqualification from the category, and wished the awards ceremony well. “It’s the fifth SAMA nomination that I’m getting. I respect the decision and hope that they will learn from this mistake and grow from it,” he said.
The SAMAS will be shown live on SABC1 on Saturday June 2. They will be taking place from Sun City.
